Car Radio Code?

I bought a used Renault Laguna yesterday, which is fitted with a Renault Philips Radio. The previous owner said we needed a code for it as he had never used it. I have found a code for it written down on the car manual. However, when I've tried entering it nothing happens. Is it most likely the wrong code or is there some specific way that it has to be entered?

take the radio out and read the serial number on the back, and post it on here. Someone will be able to get you the code for it. Costs money to go to the dealer for it. That way you will know if it is the correct code for the radio.

To enter the code you need to use the controls on the steering column. Push the button on the left hand side and you should get 4 dashes or something like that. Use the rotary control to put in the first number then push the button to get to the next number . Push the rotary again and so forth until all 4 numbers show. Then push and hold the rotary and it should work.

Sorry if this is vague but I am very very drunk
