I need to buy a head unit for my car. Need to power @ least 1500-2000 watts. Would like it to have cd player, front aux port, usb, and possibly sd card input. As well as a lot of different sound options and a seperate sub volume/mode thing. Was looking @ BOSS BV7940. not sure tho. Thank you for any input.

Brands like Boss and Dual look appealing with a lot of features at low prices. The problem is buying a brand at that quality level for car use is asking for problems. Buttons stop working, knobs break off, displays fail etc, long before they should. They are cheap for a reason.

On the other hand, there are some inexpensive name brands that offer several good features and are built to last a long time.

the most you will find in a head unit is 22 watts RMS (what I have) and average is 18 Watts RMS, you need amps for that kind of power. And are you talking RMS or peak power? With head units get the highest voltage you can for the cleanest signal. My Kenwood Excelon x395 has 4v (vs 2.5v on most) and great control for my subs and everything. No matter what if you want to add subwoofers, you need amp(s). And for that kind of power heavy duty wire, and a great alternator, or really good battery(ies). Also from my experience with BOSS, not great stuff. You can get much better. I like Kenwood and Alpine.

if you're searching for sound high quality attempt Soundstream. they don't call them audio artists for no longer some thing. The Picasso line is amazingly less expensive (12" subs for round $one hundred.) and the amplifiers are loopy. Infinity is surprisingly undesirable *** stuff too. Kenwood head instruments are the purely ones that i'd ever use. I have 3 15" Picasso Soundstreams 5 Picasso amps ( one for each sub and one for the front channel and one for the rear chanel) contained in the position the position my back seat became in my '04 steer sparkling of Ram and it bows the back window out. Sound high quality is purely right. Can listen each little element from blocks away.
