I just got a Nissan 350z and the stereo sounds like crap. It sounds crackled and distorted and the volume doesn't get very high at all. I replaced the front speakers with brand new Alpine type-s speakers, but I'm still getting the same sound. Could it be that I need an amplifier? What's the problem here? The head unit is a stock Nissan one. Any help appreciated, thanks.

I don't really know how loud it you turn it up before it becomes distorted. But I will tell you that if you do not have a "touring" edition 350z it could be that it is the head unit. They don't produce much power. So, I would suggest a amp. 100 watts x 4. That would give you a clean sound with out breaking the budget. I would replace the back speakers also. If you have the money I would try to find a single sub that won't take up to much room. I would run a separate amp for the sub. Don't go for two subs because of room. One lager sub will be better than trying to cram two subs into a small space. Don't forget the cross over very important in order to place the right sound to the correct speakers. Put the cross over in front of the amps. Good luck. If you go with a single sub then try to find room for a band pass box you will be really happy with the deep loud bass created.

Maybe he/she does not want a subwoofer. he/she isnt asking that question. Not all of us are bass heads. Anyway, it sounds its the stereo, I would invest in a new one. Then you can buy an amplifier if you think it is not loud enough.

the automobile stereo will could be priced from a hundred on up. the high priced area is the wiring harness, faceplate and antenna. in case you have already got a stereo on your vehicle, you need to use a fm transmitter.

Sounds like it is time for a new stereo.
