can i recone a dual 2 ohm subwoofer with a dual 4 ohm cone?

Question

I blew my orion hcca 10.2 (front of cone broken open and something rattling within subwoofer) I think at least I blew it or one of the voice coils. Anyways, it's not covered under warranty and i've had it for 2 weeks and i can't find a recone kit for the 10.2 but only for the 10.4

They're the same shape, size and weight. the only difference is one is a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub and the other is a 4 ohm dual voice coil.

Could i just put in the cone made for the 4 ohm?

hope fully you did not blow a voice coil that would be bad, is the cone damaged or is it just the dust cap in the middle, if just the cap the sub should still be fine but the rattling?



have you pulled the sub from the enclosure and try to find the sorce of the rattling, could just be sound from the tear.



the replacement should work, did you try tech support from orion?



and often pro audio shops have a tech that can repair or check speakers, a multimeter will tell you if the coils are still good by checking the ohm load.

I would bet money that Yes you could just use the cone off the 4 ohm Sub. Ohms is the measure of the wires impedance. The physical structure of the sub should not affect the impedance at all. I dont know why manufacturers do that crap. Its just like fitting car parts you know. Frustrating sometimes.
