i know this may be a stupid question, but can you listen to regular radio stations from a different state? (ex. if i live in new york, can i listen to the stations in texas?) or does satellite radio only have those stations without commercials?

thank you!

With satellite radio you will recieve a band of channels set up by the provider, no provider has made agreements to re-broadcast local radio with any of the local radio companies. However there are a wide selection of radio stations to listen to and to sample.

how it works.

The company bradcast a digital signal to the satellite. This is signal is then redistrubuted on an earth coverage antenna that will send the signal out to acrross the 3300 mles of planet it is looking down on.

This signal is picked up by the facny antenna on your car and then decoded in your radio. the signal is seperated into several channels known as PIDs. and the pid is what you are listening to.

Sattelite radio is beaming from a sattelite. Radio stations beam from ground.

Sat radio, has weather and traffic crap from different states and cities, even keep ahold of some sticks also. Stick with XM thats what i got, But need to make sure you get a cassete receiver, from the antenna on the player itself.

200 something channels? about 20-30 for us real people that doesnt listen to "cinamagic" from movies. lol, yes that is a real station. 15 rock channels, 15 country, like 10 rap and r&b. 15 classic rock. 2 heavy metal, 1-2 punk rock. sad little mubers for those two but hey. Poor quality without the cassete receiver though.

Personally have the ""xm"", you can only listen to the stations programed into the satellite network, not your prefered ones from your hometown or open choice, they have only the ones they own, or they pull shows from networks , like if you listen to music it will be their own ( all types) talk shows, sports like the espn stations, cnn, fox, etc, the good thing about it is that you can travel from new york to california y keep listening to the same station and their programing, without loosing signal ,ecxept for bridges, trees gas stations etc, and the only function of your stereo is to adjust the volume and to change frecuencies in case of distorsion............good luck..my xm fails often of lack of signal jus as a satellite signal for a tv will...ohh by the way ,they do run comercials, but fewer and only for what they advertise in the network...
