if i were you i wouldn't mess with walmart stereos at all. save up a little more money and get one from a car audio shop from a reputable brand. they can get you the correct dash kit and wire harness for your car. walmart dash kits are often made to be able to use a bunch of different stereo decks and cars so they are huge and ugly in the car. an audio shop will likely have one for your specific car, made to fit correctly and look nice and flush with the cars console. walmart stereo decks are generic, off brand copies of nice decks. even sony is not a good car audio choice. i would save up until you can afford a nice Alpine or Pioneer deck. ive owned both and would recommend either. if your looking for a single DIN deck, get either an Alipine CDA-9887 or a nice Pioneer. if you want a screen, get a Kenwood eXcelon DNX9140. im not just an Alpine and pioneers fanboy, ive worked with all kinds of head units and these are awesome. these choices will be more expensive, but if you go the cheap route in your car stereo install, dont let it be with your head unit. it is the brain of your system and therefore most important part of your install.

you will need:

a dash kit specific to your car

a wire harness specific to your car

probably an antenna adapter depending on your car make.

Uh, Tyler M, when was the last time that you were in walmart? They actually carry Pioneer car audio, and have for about a year now. They do not, however, carry the higher end decks from Pioneer.

To get the wiring harness for your car, you will have to go to a local car audio shop and purchase that separately from the stereo. The stereo will come with the stereo harness that you will have to wire to the new car harness adapter.

The last time I bought one at Wal-mart a wiring adapter was purchased with it. The car did not need the rest of the installation kit because it already had a DIN 1 slot.

The wiring adapter makes it easy to prewire. You can solder and heat shrink all the connections on a desk. This makes for a easier installation in the car where the factory harness is just long enough to be frustrating when using a soldering gun.

If your planning to use the original wiring in the vehicle you will need a wiring adapter kit for your specific brand and sometimes year and model. It will be seperate This will make the installation much easier. It will be plug and play instead of a complicated project. A mounting kit is also necessary unless you have the experience to built one yourself. It would be a lot of work.

Get them to install it for you and you won't have to worry about it. All cars have different wiring harnesses, panels that make it fit in the spot the only one did, etc..
