Question:
Amp Does Not Have On-Board Fuse ... Should I Put One In-Line? If So What Size For My Amp?
2013-07-30 01:29:48 UTC
The amp I am purchasing does not seem to have any kind of on-board fuse (a lot of new amps don;t seem to have that).

It is a Rockford Fosgate 300W RMS Amp (LINK Below) .... I will only be running a single 10" Sub at the 300W RMS x 1.

Based on this amp do I need a in-line fuse coming from the distribution block? ( 4 gauge wire with 100 amp in-line fuse at battery terminal to back of truck, then split on a distribution block into dual 8 gauge wires ... one will be used for this amp).

Do I need another fuse in between the distribution block and amp since the amp does not have one built in? If so what size fuse?

Thanks for the info.

Yes, the 100A fuse is the proper size for 4 awg, but since you're reducing wire size you should install the 2nd fuse to protect that.

It might have been easier and neater to have gone with a fused distribution block from the start.

you're appropriate on your thinking, in comparison to boris, 5 amp for a bathing device, er no. a bathing device has a heater that pulls around 10 amps. additionally a fuse is designed to guard the cable too. assume you have an equipment on an extension lead, the lead is rated at 5 Amp, yet a 13 A fuse is interior the plug, the appliance has a three amp fuse, the extension cable gets broken. What is going first? the appliance fuse wont with the aid of fact the extension lead is broken. The extension lead plug wont go as its 13 A The extension lead itself could soften and capture hearth as its in simple terms rated at 5 amp
