I have a 53 plate Ford KA and the charger socket doesn't seem to be working, looking at it there doesn't look like there should be a reason for it not to work either, its all in tacked, nothing missing etc. and its not the changer I am using!!
I need a charger for a sat nav and my phone so it there any way to fix them? if not, can you pay for a new one? and if so where can you get them? (could you put a link if you know where to find them?)

No stupid answers!!
Thanks :)

The fuse is blown. You can get a new one in Halfords or the petrol station.

You will need to locate where the fuses are (not sure on a Ford KA). You will also need to look in the manual to see which fuse is for the cigarette lighter.

It's an easy 5 min job.

A car cigar lighter socket is hardly hi-tech. It's basically a metal tube with a second lump of metal at the end and the plug makes contact with the two. The body is connected to the car chassis and there is a lead that connects it to the fuseboard. Check the fuse and check that the lead hasn't fallen off - there's not much more that can go wrong with it. You can buy a replacement at most car accessory shops or mail order from Maplin.

Something else to look at, is a penny, is almost the exact size as the opening of a cig lighter. Take a peak inside, and there might be one in it. There are 2 wires that go to the lighter, Power +12V is on the back, and the Ground, is on the side of the sleeve. You can unscrew the lighter by using the tip of your thumb, and putting some pressure and twist it.

Also check your fuses, but make sure to not have one in there while removing the lighter.

Good Luck!

You'll find that when the lighter got stuck and was hot for a long time it damaged the holder, creating a short. You'll probably have to get a replacement.... It would be easy enough to connect your Sat-Nav to an alternative 12v source but this requires some knowledge of the cars electrical system/layout....
