I have made a sub box that I put 2 15 inch subwoofers in my shop class for school with 1/4 inch Mdf ply wood. It sounds good but will I get a better sound out of it if I drill a hole(s) in it to breathe better. It is completely air tight I sealed it with wood putty on the outside and silicone caulking on the inside.

Go ahead and punch a hole about 2-3 inches diameter to give the wood some relief from flexing, since it's pretty thin for a speaker cabinet. This is in your process of learning. The speakers will play the frequencies they were engineered to play. With the guidance of a person with hifi experience, you might install a proper port of the correct area to emphasize frequencies where the response needs help. I recommend for you this book: " Hifi Speakers and Enclosures", by Abraham Cohen. Any decent public library should have it.

With any sub in a box made from 1/4 ply it's going to flex like mad and sound like a$$.

This can only sound good to someone who's never heard anything even approaching average.

Sub boxes don't have "breather holes".

Ported sub boxes have TUNED ports -- they have a certain depth, they are not just holes.

The size of the port opening needs to be appropriate for the sub and the size of the box. And the length is adjusted to arrive at a particular tuning frequency.

There is a LOT of math involved -- math which few people know these days b/c most sub boxes are designed with the assistance of a computer.

FWIW - Not sure which sub you have. Sony has had a few 15's in recent years, but they are generally intended for small sealed boxes -- 1.5-2.0cf

In my sealed box my sub wasnt hitting as hard as i thought it should. I did a lot of research and found if you add insulation inside the box it will make a big difference. I bought some insulation at home depot, cost about $10, and BOOM what a difference! They hit twice as hard! Solo baric L712
