I have an Alpine 12" Type R 4ohms wired to 2 ohms. So, which one should I get? Currently I have a HDP box, but last year my trunk leaked and destroyed it, so I need a new one. But, if I can get one that sounds better, I would like to. But, if MDF and HDF sound the same, I can get a new one today. That is, the HDF.

MDF, HDF will all sound the same. The reason people use different materials is for reasons like weight and strength, not sound.

If you were mounting a 40-60 pound woofer and the box could not be built thicker, a higher density would be stronger, and so on.

Some guys need the box to be as light as possible and will use Ultralight MDF

I prefer MDF for most of my boxes. And if you have any spots that need reenforcement, just add either a 2nd layer or bracing to quell any possible vibrations or box flex..
