A "carputer" is the only way.

The idea is to have a "non-hard drive" based computer that runs standalone Windows XPE from a Bootable-CD from one CD-ROM.

Windows XPE: pre-installation environment, not to be confused with WinPE, actual Windows XP design the way YOU want it.

Your MP3's are stored on DVD's and up to three DVD-ROMs may be used for DVD MP3's since there is no hard drive. Three DVD's hold 14 Gig of info which equals about 2700 songs or more.

This all ties into your sound system.

No hard drive means nothing will crash. A touch screen display is really the only other peice of equipment needed.

...if you live in the NorthEast where it gets cold, hard drives tend to freeze or collect condensation (BAD) in the winter. This is why DVD's work much better (IMHO).

If you are interested in Windows XPE CD, then check out these links:

I've got a WinXPE CD I use for spyware/virus removal and I could make one for a "carputer" as well.

If you use a computer's CD-Rom, you will need the entire computer and use it as a source. Basically one of two routes would work, from the computers sound card to the Aux-in on a headunit, or to a sound processor board and a few amps with a bunch of crossovers before them.

A trick might want to be artwork to attain this, you should rearrange the perfect ability provide adapter to powered CDchronic on your motor vehicle, then you really ought to rearrange a jack to insert in Headphone's jack hollow. The wires which comes out from this jack can connect to the enter of your motor vehicle sterio/song gadget. yet a difficulty nonetheless there, you may have a good time with purely Audio CDs... no longer MP3.
