I know that there are different types of ports that can be used on a vented box. Like slot port, square ports, or round ports made from PVC. Well there are probably others, but I was just wondering if there is any difference sound wise in the different ports. If you had the same subwoofer in two different boxes, and each had the same cubic feet of space but with a different type of port, lets use round port and square port, then would there be a difference in sound. Lets say we did the calculations right and got the tuning frequincies the same. So everything is the same ecept the shape of the port. Is there any difference in sound? Any difference at all?

No, no difference in sound. But there will be a difference in port length between the two because of the difference in style of the ports. Check my site for other info http://spkrbox1.space.live.com

Kyle M and odinragess are the two suitable. A sealed enclosure is easer to construct and is greater forgiving in case you elect the incorrect inner quantity. The consistent rigidity interior the field prevents the cone from travelling to its furthest extremes (outing), and so the cone returns to its impartial place quicker. We pay attention this as "tighter" bass. Likewise, sealed enclosures are oftentimes smaller that a ported enclosure for an identical speaker. the situation with a sealed enclosure is that it shifts the audio equipment passband up in frequency. If, in loose air, the speaker can bypass, say, 30 hz at -3 dB (the place output is down 50%), interior a sealed field that frequency would be shifted as much as fifty 5 hz or bigger. In maximum regularly occurring music (rock, metallic, hip-hop, maximum techno) it particularly is not a situation. yet, in the adventure that your enjoying alot of classical music, the music the place the indoors maximum bass many times happens (the fundemental tone of the backside be conscious on a pipe organ is sixteen hz, that's decrease than the form of human listening to) a sealed field is going to omit alot of that. A ported field, on the different hand, is greater complicated, and could purely be equipped by using somebody who particularly is acquainted with what they are doing (in case you do no longer very own a replica of Vance Dickeson's Loudspeaker layout Cookbook, you do no longer qualify). there are diverse alignments that exist, a number of which will tournament a particular driving force, on an identical time as others won't. There are not any basic regulations i will quote to permit you already know which to apply, even understanding the T-S specs of your drivers. A ported field will oftentimes have a decrease ability output, yet that's no longer universally so. A ported field will oftentimes bypass decrease frequencies, yet back, it particularly is not the case. finally, there is not any in simple terms suitable kind of subwoofer. there is fullyyt a query of which subwoofer terrific suits your needs. the only thank you to understand that for particular is which you would be able to test, attempting diverse alignments till you detect what's suitable for you.

i seriously doubt there would be much, might not even be audible. i think i have read that there is a SLIGHT diff. between a slot and round port but like i said barely, barely noticable.

yes the bigger the port the more deep toned the bass is.
