literally i'm the biggest car novice, still 16 but im learning to drive like right on my birthday which is next week. i love my car to bits but the inside lets it down as it only had a radio and cassette player which it was built with, i want to play music with my ipod but i got one of those cassette adaptors and came to the conclusion that i would much rather just replace the whole unit for something better. i would love some advice as to how to change the unit (but can it be like ridiculously simplified because im easily confused) thank you

I used to have a Ka and then Sportka and did it with mine, its quite easy.

To remove the old stereo:

On the stereo there are 4 little holes. You need some removal keys which you insert into the holes, squeeze them away from each other and pull the stereo out of the dashboard. The wires at the back just disconnect easily by squeezing the clips where they connect to the back of the stereo. Removal keys can be found on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-KA-1996-ISO-Radio-Removal-Release-Keys-Stereo-Removing-Tools-/180883042000?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2a1d782ed0

New stereo;

It might be easier to buy one of the standard Ford Ka stereos as the Ka dashboard is a funny shape and the standard Ka stereos are designed to be an exact fit.

Go on ebay and search;

-"Ka 6000". this is just a standard KA cd player

OR

-"ka 6000aux" This is the newer model Ka cd player which has a hole at the front to connect your ipod/mp3 player etc. they are quite rare though

OR

-"ka 6006e" This is a Ka cd player which has a built in 6 disc CD changer in it. clever, but i had one and it was a bit temperamental.

Bear in mind they come in different colours as there are different colours of KA dashboard so you will probably want one that matches.

If you want an aftermarket radio then you can any one off ebay but you will also need a fascia adaptor which fits round the aftermarket stereo and is the shape of the Ka Dashboard and you will also need some wire adaptors. The following link for ebay is the removal keys, fascia adaptor and the wire adaptors all in one package:

Hope this helps

Cd Player For Ford Ka
?

It's a Ford Ka, they're horrible little cars of the lowest build quality, and if you start modifying it (even just changing the stereo) then you're going to make it a thief magnet (they're already easy to steal!) and make your insurance even higher. If you want to play music through your ipod, then honestly a cassette adaptor is about the best way, and just as good as most the cheap stereo's with the "ipod functionality" they claim to have.

like most cassette players if you look to each side of the from face there are 2holes either side they only look pin hole size. but you can buy 2 metal tonges that push into unit you then pull either 1 to left and ride side and start to pull gently towards you. eventually it should give you enough room to see behind to disconnect unit and out!!! job done.

im sure if you look on argos site or even go into local halfords and ask they will be able to show you cd players that will fit your car that have the aux connection point which allows you to connect items to it!! but always look around for gd deals not just go for 1 they recommend :) hope this helps

They can easily be removed by bending a wire from a coat hook into a u shape and fitting them into the holes in the unit and wiggling it out.Any Ford double din player will fit and work with the same plug in connections.Not sure about ipod though?Hope this helps

I got it done in Halfords, that way you didn't have to think about how you were going to fit it. I already had an aftermarket radio with DAB/USB/SD Card/CD/Aux and they fitted it perfectly into the slot for £50, so that's likely to be your answer.

Take car to Halfords or a good local car audio place

Tell them what you want to achieve and they will gove you the options of which there are loads.

Decide which option is best.and get it done by them or you by buying the bits only

Remember to tell your insurer about the modification to the car

either go to a car shop and ask what they have that will fit yours, or to a second hand dealer, and get what you want from a newer model, then find someone who knows what theyre doing to help you :)
