I just bought a 1999 Toyota Corolla, and the sound system in it is unbearable. Im not looking for sub woofers or a rig that is able to boom "lil wayne" when im driving down the street. I just want to put in somthing that is sounds decent at a casual volume.

I am not sure if i will have to pay someone to install it or if i will do it my self so i would like to have a price of if i installed it, as well as if i had someone install it for me.

thanks

if you get the stuff online you could probably do something decent by yourself for $350-400. the problem with having it installed is that you either have to buy the stuff from best buy or a local dealer or they will charge you and outrageuos amount to install it; if they will install it at all.

when you look for a head unit find one that meets your criteria(i.e. ipod controls) and try to find one with a high pass filter built into it. the filter reduces the bass that the speakers can't play lowering distortion. they ussually have to be set after the head unit is installed.

when you look for speakers remeber that the head unit amplifier puts out less than 20 watts rms so look for coaxial (no 3 ways) speakers that are in the 25-40watt rms.

if you do both those things you will pretty much maximize your sound for a minimal amount of money. corollas are real easy to work on too btw. my sister has one.

Why would anyone want to blow out their speakers playing lil wayne?
