I own two 15" PUNCH HE2 Rockford Fosgate Subwoofers model RFP4215. This sub can handle 500 watts RMS and 1000 watts peak. It's dual voice coil....

Subwoofer info:
• dual 4-ohm voice coil design
• CON sealer gasket hides mounting screws and stops bass-robbing air leaks
• frequency response 22-400 Hz
• power range 125-500 watts RMS (each voice coil handles 250 watts RMS)
• peak power 1,000 watts
• sensitivity 87 dB
• top mount depth 7-9/16"
• sealed box volume 2.0-4.0 cubic feet
• ported box volume 2.0-4.0 cubic feet

I need to put them in a smaller box to fit in my trunk. Do I get a ported, bandpass, or sealed box to get the best sound…. This is a small hatchback trunk so I have to be careful?

I have an Excursion Amplifier HVX 1500D 2000 WATTS MAX POWER (.667 OHM CAPABLE). Is this amp good enough to push these speakers to the max? (http://www.hollywooddigitalusa.com/ex_amp.html)

What size amp kit should I purchase?

Here's your answer.

sealed box volume 2.0-4.0 cubic feet

ported box volume 2.0-4.0 cubic feet

I prefer sealed, but that's me.

Bandpass isn't mentioned.

The most you can push out of that amp with those subs is 750 watts RMS @ 1 ohm with the subs wired like so http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j230/sparky3489/DUAL-PARALLEL.jpg

The subs can handle 1000 watts RMS together.

Stay away from bandpass in a trunk. A large ported box with the ports facing towards the rear of the car would be wise. Your best bet in a trunk in my opinion is free subs mounted on a board, using your trunk as the enclosure.. I suggest Infinity Kappa perfect 12". Get an amp with at least 500 x 500 rms or 1000 watts mono. Bridge the speakers in series neg to pos pos to neg to create an 8ohm load then run amp bridged to both subs creating a 4ohm load. Don't do 2ohm. Most amps cant handle it and you amp will shut down often. I recommend Kenwood, Kicker or Earthquake amps if you have the money. Or a very good amp inexpensive amp I never have problems with are Profile and Power Acoustic. You can get 900 watts for around $200.

The simple answer is that you need to make the decision yourself. I have worked in dealerships for more than 15 years. I am currently a parts and service director for Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Subaru dealer. Prior to this I was in a similar roles at a GM franchise. Ihave driven both vehicle and have had to service both vehicles. The truth is that these vehicle are very different from each other. Have you driven both? The Tib has more power hanldes better and if you buy it brand new you get a 10 year 100,000 mile power train warranty on top of the basic 5 year 60,000 mile warranty. The cobalt does get better fuel economy and has more cargo space. Also GM has increased their warranties over the last couple of years. I am not sure what their warranties are stated at now. They were 3 years or 36,000 miles in total, but that has probably increased over the last few years. Both vehicles have their own appeal and problems. The Tibs biggest issue was that on the 03 model v6 standard it had clutch problems. You can find issues of this all over the internet. But, it was only a problem with the 03 model. All the other years have been fine. If you do choose the Hyundai please make sure that you also purchase the Hyundai extended warranty. It is call HPP. HPP actually can extend your regular factory warranty out to be as long as your powertrain warranty. It will also alows you to have rental coverage while under factory warranty. Hyundai does not supply rental coverage while under basic or powertrain warranty. With the HPP however you are covered. The HPP contract has no deductable and is actually mantained by Hyundai not an outside company. It is valid at all Hyundai Dealers nation wide. Whatever car you buy I would highly recomend that you purchase that manufacturers extended warranty. The other thing you might want to consider is that two of the three cars that you mentioned are asian market vehicles. The asian market vehicle are highly maint driven. If you take care of them they will last for a long time. Remeber also that the Cobalt is actually based on the older Daewoo chassis. Just a bit of info for thought.

sealed box will be cleaner. ported will hit harder. just stay within the size it tells u. so u would need a box with at least 2cu. ft. per side, 4cu. ft. total. ud be better off upgrading to better subs and get 12s. unless u dont mind losing ur whole trunk. nice car choice btw, but the big ? is, is it a gt? lol
