There are also tweeters in front doors by the wing mirrors but don't really need them as the 4.7" Sony xplode speakers in the doors have built in tweeters. I really want more bass and I have a pair of boxed jvc 6x9 speakers that I'll put in the boot of the car.. Do I need an amp or should I disconnect the back speakers and use the 6x9's instead? Or will they fit in the doors? What will be the best sound without spending to much! My head unit is a Sony 4x50 watt by the way

6x9's may give some improved bass but it may just sound warm and boomy instead of actual bass you may be looking for. Power should be OK from the sony head unit and I wouldn't waste adding an amp for some 6x9's - they are alright for midbass but sometimes don't sound as good as a normal round speaker to begin with. Without spending any money I would say go ahead and unhook the rear speakers and wire into the 6x9's in the trunk instead.

If this approach is still not enough I would save until you can get an amp AND a sub. In my early years I also experimented with some boxed 6x9's the same way - this is what convinced me I needed a sub.

-Don't expect a lot of bass from 6x9" speakers in boxes.

-You'll get more out of them if you use an amp to drive them rather than swapping the rear speaker outputs.

-We can't tell you if the 6x9" speakers will fit in your doors, because you've neglected to tell us what kind of car you have. However, if the original speaker is a 5-inch, then it's a pretty safe bet you won't be able to replace it with a 6x9.

-If they're "Sony Xplodes", they aren't stock speakers, they're after-market.

Your best option would be to add an amplifier and subwoofer (or an amplified sub) rather than messing around with the 6x9's.
