Car entertainment How do you change the wiring round on the male side of a ISO plug ?

I have just bought a new CD player for my 99 astra. When I turn the ignition off if forgets all the radio stations. I discovered that it is because two wires are mixed up on the iso power supply. I went to change them round and I could not get the little metal fittings out of the plastic plug to swap them round and I'd rather not cut and shut the wires. Any ideas?

Have you bought a wiring harness/adapter? If not, you can but one from your local car parts supplier, it just clips in to your existing wiring loom and then plugs into the radio.

If you don't want to do that, i'd just clip the wires and solder the joints...either that or you could use some plastic connectors, you can also get those from your car part supplier.

The easy way to do this is to buy 2 pair of spade and covered conectors from Halfords or some where like that and cut the two red wires and swap them over this will be easier and you can then also swap them back over if needed in the future.



I know this because I have done the same on my 02 plate Zafira and 06 Astra and on a 51 plate Pug 206.

You might be able to push the tabs down with a large sewing needle and get the connectors out of the holder. If that doesn't work, get another plug, break the old one and put the wires in the new one the way you want them. If it was me I'd cut the wires and switch them, soldering them together for the best connection and cover them with shrink tube or heavy plastic tape.

once the metal prongs are out of the ISO plug they tend to fall out again later on, so you're kind of back to square one. if the radio has a radio specific to ISO lead, you could swap the 2 wires on that (red and yellow), vauxhall will do the lead too, or autoleads. The part number for autoleads is PC2-04-4. There's loads on ebay for under a fiver!



or... depending on where you bought the radio from you could always just get them to swap the 2 wires over for you

they are tricky 2 get out but they do come just watch you can widen or break their holder .cutting the wires isnt that bad aslong as you connect them well when u do it.
