Question:
Subwoofer/ airspace questions???

I have a 1987 volvo (heavy steel car) and i've got 2 Cadence "Flash" 600watt subwoofers in a sealed box in my trunk. I'm pushing them with a 1000watt Nitro amp but it doesn't feel like it's bumping as hard as i'd like...My subs are in a sealed box...maybe i need a ported box for it to hit harder??? or Does anybody have any tips to make it bump HARD, other than bridging to drop it down to 4ohms? also... I am thinking about getting a new amp and subs...2 alpine type-r's, or something along those lines...what should i get? remember, i've got a volvo so my alternator's not juiced up any, and i bet i need a capacitor...thanks for all your help...

You will increase the output if you build a ported enclosure for those subs, but I personally would think about getting a different sub woofer and amp. I don't concern myself with having two subs. One nice sub getting good clean power in the right box is really all you need. Based on your needs I would think about getting an Image Dynamics IDQ12, JL Audio 12w6 or something in that range, and putting it into a ported enclosure and choosing a mono sub amp with an appropriate amount of power. That's what I would do anyways, you can take what you want from that.

If you have subwoofers that are 15" or bigger then do not put them in a ported box.If you have 8",10",or 12" then put them in sa ban pass box and you will hear the difference the first time you bump it.Since they are only 600watts then you will only need about 1 and a half square feet per subwoofer. The airspace usually doesnt matter unless you are going for compotition,so if you just doing it for you personal enjoyment then get a box that fits however many speakers you have but will still fit in your car without forceing it,also make sure that either you face the speakers away from you or if a ported box face the ports in the opposite derection of you,The more objects or thing that the bass hits before it reaches you the louder it will be.

If they are free air you need bigger port holes, If they are not free air your box may be to big or not sealed properly, you can add poly foam(like whats in a pillow) to the inside of the box to take up space, it will make it much louder. If it is not sealed good go around and use caulking on all of the spots you feel air coming out of the box. Maybe your box is to small, if it is you know what to do. Hope I was some help. A speaker shop should be able to tell you what kind of speakers they are.
