Obviously, I know nothing about subs and amps, so please help me out. I know someone who is selling a used set of 10" subs by lightning audio. I've never heard of lightning audio. Are they decent??

Also, what kind of amp would I need to be able to handle those subs??

Last, but not least, the box that the subs are in is 9" deep on top, 13" deep on the bottom, 13" high and 30" long. Think it'll fit into my car somewhere?? (I have a pontiac firebird. lol.)

Thanks so much!!<3

The Lightning Audio brand can mostly be found at Best Buy or Walmart. What they handle for wattage, all depends on what level/model they are. I would run at least a a 400 watt RMS amp to them. Now, the box might be a REAL tight fit in the Firebird. The only way to find out for sure is to measure your trunk/hatch. Some boxes (depending on the size) actually fir into the little area that is designed to hold the t-tops.

Lighting Audio is not bad, but defiantly not great. they wil l make bass, but probaley not earth shattering.

The subs are more than likly around 200w rms with a 500/600 peak wattage.

To get a decent amp, look for a good 250-300 watt amp.

this will power them, without overpowering them. Look on line, you can usually find some decent ones pretty cheap.

Also, do you have an aftermarkt radio in the car, if not, you will have to run either a inline converter and a remote wire from the iginition (or you might be able to splice one in if you have a factory amp in the car in the trunk, but will need a detailed wiring diagram to do this).

The box has a cubic ft area of 2.03, so for 2 10" this should be good, if not ideal. A bigger box will have to much compression which will cause the subs to sound flat, and amke the bottom out..

You need an amp to power a sub-woofer. If you don't get an amp, your speakers will blow. You can always get a refurbished amp and sub. Try the website below for inexpensive equipment. One very important point to consider. Look at RMS when purchasing a sub. The higher the RMS the more crisp the sound. Don't worry about power wattage so much. The sound may come through muffled. Sub 750 rmps by Kicker is a very good model. I was looking for a sub and found that one to be the best sounding and best quality. It's square instead of round which makes a difference. A good radio installation professional place will find space for it in your vehicle without a problem.

Good luck.

The reason that they are selling them is because they are crap.Rather go for something like kenwood or pioneer which are good value for money. You WILL need an amp because a car stereo has not got enough power to drive a sub. It's like you trying to lift your car up to change the tyre but you are not strong enough and that's why you have a jack.So that's why you need an amp.A normal sub box should fit into your boot but i can't say how much room you will have left though...Hope this helps

Don't buy lightning audio. If you get them for free then take it, but save you $$ and buy a better sub

Ever heard of Rockford Fosgate?

Same company, just RF is more out there.

I have currently two 10" rf subs and an rf amp. Love it.
