I have a 2003 Acura MDX Touring Package with Bose Premium Sound. I am looking to put in 2 12" subs and 10" inch subs with an appropriate amp. I dont know alot about speaker systems so tell me if my goal is reachable, and/or if i should replace anything else that comes with the Bose premium stock speaker system. If i cant reach my goal tell me how much you think i need to save up. Thanks for any help!

mixing sizes of subwoofers in a car is not a good idea.you can end up with phase problems that can cause you to actually lose loudness over just running one pair of the subs.

i know of a car local to me that was running a single 18 and a pair of 10's.no matter how the car was setup it would get louder with the 10's disconnected.they tried different boxes, amps ,reversing the phase, using a different brand of subwoofer etc.nothing helped.they finally just pulled the 10's out and gave up.

youre goal is reachable but stick with the same size subs and youre going to need to get an amplifier. 2 12's should do justice. if not then 2 15's will be more than enough. You're going to want to be running a 2 ohm load off your amp so look for either two 4 ohm single voice coil subs or two 8 ohm dual voice coil subs. either way, you will be getting the 2 ohm load which is ideal because the amps produce much more power at this rating.

Quite honestly, for $1000, you can do a lot more than just subs. I did a complete Pioneer package (4 door speakers, 4 channel amp, mono amp, 12" sub, touch screen bluetooth headunit) for less than a grand. Bought all my gear on sonicelectronix.com.

From what I hear, the bose sound isn't that great in cars. you might want to look into some speakers and amp them as well.

Check these sites out...it is a good reference.

If your headlight dims with the bass notes, the “BIG 3” might work. If not an H.O. alternator will be needed, or else be prepared to pour a lot of $$$ for batteries.

This site explains the "BIG 3" upgrades.

I've designed my car for SQ (Sound Quality) not SPL (Sound Pressure Level) my imaging is very good. The bass sounds as if it is up front and my 12 inch sub (picture as shown) in the trunk. I LOVE how it all worked out.

GOOD LUCK and have fun…

Yeah as mentioned before don't mix diff sizes, if you are looking for a high end stuff (and judging by your budget it looks like you are) checkout the following top tier combo that will blow out the competition:

Kicker Dual 12" Dual Solo-Baric L7 Subs for $464 and you won't find it cheaper (copy / paste the link)

http://www.vminnovations.com/product_3904/Kicker-08DS12L72-12-Inch-Subwoofers-with-Box-Pair-.html

Install those subs with this amp Hifonics HFI25800D for $283

http://www.vminnovations.com/product_4203/Hifonics-HFI2500D-2500W-Mono-Class-D-Amplifier.html

or you can use this amp by Kicker 10ZX1500.1 to match for $438 again you will need to copy/paste http://www.vminnovations.com/product_6278/KICKER-10ZX1500-1-1500-WATT-CAR-AMPLIFIER-ZX1500-1.html

That is probably as high end as you will get with your budget and they will thumb really strong and loud for a long time (notice VMI offers 2 year warranty and best prices online)

Fyi even though I work there I hope this info helps.
