Which way would have the best sound quality for my head unit in my car: burning songs onto a CD or listening to the songs straight from the iPod with USB? (not talking about a purchased CD, just one that I burned using songs i already ripped onto my hard drive)

dam thats a good question. if u have a song recorded at 320 kbps recorded on a cd and the same song wit the same kbps quality on the ipod. u probably cant tell the difference.. but i would have to say a cd is better. since the ipod music has to go thrugh the usb cable before it comes out ur speakers. jus an opinion.

CD's are like tapes now a days to most of us but as long as you take care of your CD's the sound quality is the same depending on what bit rate you burn them at. Ipod advantage is that you have many more songs and no fumbling with CD's while you're driving. If your radio has the USB port, use a flash drive or even an SD card adapter. I have a TV head unit that has the USB and memory card slot which I use both only because the memory card slot is limited to a 2GB card but the USB has taken up to an 8GB which I've heard that most radio's with the USB will take up to a 32GB. Hope this helps

the cds have more space close to 700MB and some new store cds hold a Little more close to 1gb

so there is more space for music quality there is no compression or any modification to the original music files you can hear all the instruments

try to do that in the ipod and it will be full with 10 cds or 30 cds on a 30gb video ipod

and sound quality still not the same

mp3 and mp4 have a lot of compression to save space = lost of sound quality

CD'S are better on the last sema show most of the industry is talking about no more cds after 2013 to 2015

Dude, no matter what CD always going to have best sound quality, I am talking about the original ones, not the one's people download from internet and burning on to the CD, I am talking about the ones sale in the store. Otherwise just go with the iPod USB, still going to have the quality of sound, but is not as dec as a original CD. Buy it from store just take good care of the CD. you should do good.

It depends on the bitrate of the actual song. 320 bit audio will sound better than 128 bit. As for the medium, CDs and Ipods are all digital. There shouldn't be any difference. Each individual song and the bit quality will determine which songs sound better.

On my truck i cant tell a difference if the songs came from the same source. Like if you have a song downloaded on your pc and you burn that song on a disk and you also used your pc to transfer that same song to your ipod.
