i just installed a brand new kenwood kdc-352u into my 1997 528i bmw last night. Everything works fine, except everytime i turn it on again (getting in my car and turning the battery on) it starts up in demo mode again. so all the presets i made reset to demo mode, even though i go through the settings and turn demo mode off. it's like nothing saves once it turns off. i went through some of the maunual and couldnt find a solution. any ideas?

To expand a little more completely on what Dave said, your 12V constant wire (yellow) is only getting power when the ignition is turned on. The yellow wire coming out of the Kenwood should be connected to a wire that constantly has 12V. The red wire coming out of the Kenwood should be connected to a wire that only has 12V when the ignition is on. Sounds like you have them both on an ignition source.

If my source is correct, the BMW wire color for 12V constant is Red/White. The wire color for 12V ignition source is Purple/White. A multimeter would come in handy...

Your radio is not keeping constant power, check your connection on the yellow wire behind the radio. Factory wiring has been known to go bad, so if your not getting voltage you may have to run a new constant wire to the fuse panel.

Could be a floor challenge. That you could are trying walking a floor wire from a point on the car's chassis (close the head unit) to the steel enclosure of the head unit itself. On the again of the pinnacle unit there's mostly either a spade terminal or screw dedicated for this motive.
