I have a 2001 BMW with just the regular speakers and everything on it. If I wanted to put subwoofers in it how would I do that? Would I have to take out other speakers? Get a new radio control unit? Install anything else that you need with subs? And please don't waste your time telling me to do a bunch of other stuff to get a really good set up. I don't have much money and just want the subs but I don't know anything about them. Thanks!

Subs are typically the size of a dinner plate. They can sit in boxes that take half your trunk, but many boxes are actually designed to save space. Your existing speakers can stay where they are and you do not need a new radio unit. You can splice straight into your rear speaker wires to get the sound for your amp. It may also be necessary to get a 12v 'remote' source from your radio or ignition to turn on the amp. the12volt.com can help with this. You will need an amplifier and subs of course, but you will also need to have a wire run directly from your car battery to the amplifier. Also you will need another wire screwed or attached to exposed frame metal in your trunk. The power and ground wires are the hardest part... You can wire yourself if you are willing to spend a few hours on it. It takes some research and understanding but you can do it ALL yourself.

Well car audio is my proffesion. If you get subwoofers you would really want to get 12"s. You can fit 2 12"s in a slim box in the back of BMW for sure. You would need to get an amplifier(Higher wattage = Better), which sends power and feed back to the subs. The amp runs audio wires to the back of your radio, giving how new your car is, it probably has the hookups. They are AV cables, like the red and white color cords that go into your tv. You need to wire those, plus a remote wire from the amp to the back of your radio. The remote wire tells the amp to turn on when the radio cuts on(so it doesn't kill your battery.) You connect this small blue wire to a loose blue wire in the back of your radio. If that and the AV cable connects aren't there you need to get a new radio ( Cheap as 50 bucks ). You need to run a power wire through your car somewhere, from the battery to the amp. Kind of complicated, feel free to email me if you can't find this. You also have a ground wire, just lock it good under a bolt inside your car connected to your frame (Mine is in where the seat is mounted to the frame) All these wires are included in an "Amp Wiring kit) Make sure the wire is greater or equal to your wattage because it will melt through and short your system out. once all these are done, connect the subs to the amp, and hear the boom. While "Moobert" is 99.999999% correct, he is also wrong in one aspect. More wattage does not mean better. The amount of power required to raise just 1-3 decibels of sound is between 400-500watts. So that means, if you are running 2 12's at 500rms a piece, volume on your HU (Head Unit= cd player) is at 30, and you are hitting 90 decible's, then to go up to 93, you would need another 500 watts, just to get a little bit more, but the difference would be negligable. You wouldn't even notice. So get yourself a pair of 12's, throw them in a .5-.7 cu ft enclosure (per sub) and get yourself a 1000/1 or 750/1 or **** even a 500/1 amp and you will be fine and happy with it.

that's a uncomplicated false impression that subwoofers are purely for people who choose for loud song which shakes the homestead down. The physics rationalization above is a astounding answer yet to place it in any different case: to realize low frequency sounds, you will desire to head air returned and forth slowly (the decrease the frequency, the slower the air has to head). The decrease the sound you pick for to realize, the greater air you will desire to shift to allow you to take heed to it. maximum energetic subs (energetic subs have their very own capacity grant) of a actual looking length (say 8") will many times be waiting to realize the intensity of sound for many peoples desires. some audio gadget will contain subwoofers to realize the low down sounds yet in my experience that's maximum suitable to purchase audio gadget with impressive readability and not huge woofers for the extreme and mid variety frequencies and then a sub to attend to the deeper sounds. whilst placing your gadget up, be very careful to set the element at which the sub is used (the beginning frequency variety) and the quantity so as that the bass does no longer drown the sound out. This takes some fiddling yet you would understand once you have have been given it because it will be very balanced with no noticeable substitute in quantity as notes drop. A properly adjusted sub will make tones plenty fuller and could stay away from a compelled sound as can take place whilst smaller audio gadget are used on their very own. In precis, in case you're severe a pair of homestead studio set up a sub woofer is the thank you to bypass. stay away from very large fashions for audio replica as they might no longer be waiting to maintain up with quickly tracks and could no longer sound sparkling. 2 smaller subs are greater useful than one large one and a few fashions unquestionably use 2 smaller cones as in many circumstances occurring. be careful to no longer fall into the seize of procuring for a house cinema sub which will many times be very large and only perfect for action picture soundtracks to enhance explosions, etc. i'd desire to bypass on and on, however the respond is particular, you will desire to have an energetic subwoofer!
